Theatre company hitting the road

ESSEX-Essex Theatre Company is moving to the Strand Theatre for its first production, Jonathan Larson's "Rent," directed by Derrick A. Hopkins.

Flooding in the basement of the Masonic Lodge in Essex, ETC's normal venue, makes it difficult for a large cast to rehearse and perform there in July.

"The Strand, which is under renovation, is a perfect setting for 'Rent,' and it seats a larger audience than the Lodge," according to a release from ETC.

The dates for "Rent" have changed with a gala on Tuesday, July 19. The gala, called "A Bohemian Festival," is at 6 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and desserts by Giovanna Holden, a silent auction, prizes, a champagne toast to the cast and the production, cast Q & A.

The show itself is at 8 p.m.

Tickets to the gala are $40 pre-paid for a single ticket; $50 at the door; $75 pre-paid for a couple; $90 at the door.
