On the float performing "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning," were singers/guitarists Tim and Todd Lawson. Their live rendition of 9-11 themed song prompted many spectators to weep.
Later, the Lawsons played this emotional anthem and other patriotic songs during the awards ceremony that followed on the grounds of Fort William Henry Resort.
The large crowd that gathered joined the Lawsons and dozens of Lake Georgians in singing "God Bless the USA," the 9-11 anthem by Lee Greenwood, while many of the spectators lifted glowing lighters high into the darkness, Barbara McGuirk of the Lake George Fire Department said.
"It was so overwhelming, and the crowd was so into it," she said.
McGuirk added that the entire parade Friday night was an unprecedented heartfelt occasion for so many.
"It's nothing like we've ever seen before," she said.
