Motorcycle, car collide in SL; one injured

A local man was hospitalized briefly this week following an accident in Saranac Lake.

Saranac Lake Village Police say 24-year-old John Nazzaro of Saranac Lake was driving his motorcycle along Riverside Drive at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when he collided with a car being operated by 35-year-old Crystal Shipman, also of Saranac Lake.

Chief Bruce Nason says Shipman was backing out and didn't see the oncoming motorcycle until it was too late. He adds that Nazzaro tried to avoid Shipman's car, but was unsuccessful.

"Both of their views were limited by some parked cars," Nason told WNBZ. "He tried to go around, but he hit the back of her vehicle on the passenger's side."

Nason adds that Nazzaro injured his knee, but was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Rescue personnel transported Nazzaro to the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for treatment.

Nason says Shipman received a ticket for unsafe backing.
