Conservationist recognized for lake work

SCHROONLAKE-Bill McGhie, president of the East Shore Schroon Lake Association, was honored by the New York Federation of Lakes Association with the Lake Steward Award at the 28th annual conference held in Hamilton April 30.

NYSFOLA is made up of over 200 member lakes whose mission is to protect the water resources of New York State.

The NYSFOLA Lake Steward Award acknowledges individuals who have made exemplary contributions to their lake associations.

In awarding McGhie the Lake Steward Award for Schroon Lake, Nancy Mueller, NYSFOLA executive manager, cited McGhie's specific accomplishments at an honorary dinner. McGhie has excelled in establishing a lake alliance of 10 neighboring lakes; Schroon Lake long range watershed management program; lake steward volunteer program; chemical testing of lake water; boat safety; scout surveillance program to identify invasive aquatic weeds; strengthening ESSLA to carry out its mission to preserve, protect, and improve the waters and lands of the Schroon Lake and River Region, for present and future generations.
