Monroe baby born

Clarissa and Zachary Monroe, of Mud Street, are proud to announce the birth of a baby girl born June 1, weighing 7 pounds, 1.4 ounces, and 20 inches long. The girl has been named Samantha Anne. Proud grandparents are John and Becky Hoague of Hartford and John and Edythe Monroe of North River.

Events and activities

Gather up your needles and thread and join a gathering of local quilters at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 27 at the Thurman Town Hall. For details, call Myra at 623-2633.

Get your children ready to join in the Thurman Youth Program, which begins for 2011 on July 11 in a session from 9 a.m. to noon. This program will be held on the hill at the town youth building. Call 623-9649.

The Thurman Baptist Church is welcoming citizens of all ages to attend their Vacation Bible School starting Monday, June 27 and lasting all week until Friday, July 1. The sessions last from 6 to 8 p.m. each day. Children and adults are invited. Call 623-2226.

The Monday night Concerts in the Park series will begin on July 4, with the music starting at 7 p.m. and fireworks at about 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by for an evening of fun. This program is free. For details, call 623-9649.

Notice has been issued that the famous local Fiddler's Jamboree, a beloved tradition in town, will not be held this year. It was normally held in September at the Veterans Memorial Field in Athol drawing hundreds to hear the mountain-style traditional acoustic music.
