Volunteers to send care packages to local Marines

The parents of two local Marines recently deployed to Afghanistan are seeking donations in order to put together care packages.

Lance Corporal Jonathan M. Mauler of Saranac Lake and Private First Class Cody Ecret of Bloomingdale are both graduates of Saranac Lake High School and are enlisted with the 1st Battalion 9th Marines out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Mauler's mother, Tracy DeFuria-Mauler, says she's working with family members and the community to collect items for care packages she hopes to send to the two young men.

Items considered "highly desirable" for servicemen and women stationed abroad include: candy; dental floss; flashlights; gum; pencils; stationery; toiletries; and toothbrushes.

Those interested in making donations for the two Marines can contact Tracey DeFuria-Mauler at 534-1238 or Carol DeFuria at 891-2427.

Items can also be dropped off at Hulbert's Tri-Lakes Supply on John Munn Road in Saranac Lake or Teddy's Ice Cream on state Route 3 in Bloomingdale.
