A Clinton County man was hit with multiple charges following a drunken driving accident near Bloomingdale earlier this week.
Ray Brook-based state police arrested 22-year-old Jake A. Abbott of Morrisonville at 6:17 a.m. Wednesday at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
The arrest followed an investigation into a one-car motor vehicle accident on state Route 3 in the town of St. Armand.
Troopers were called to the scene at 3:21 a.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, police found a white Volkswagen Jetta on its roof in the middle of the highway, not far from the Saranac Lake Central School District's bus garage.
Investigators say the vehicle was unoccupied and its airbags had been deployed. Additionally, troopers say a power pole had been snapped in half as a result of the accident.
Some witnesses reported finding blood at the scene of the accident, but no driver.
Troopers were able to track down Abbott several hours later at the hospital, where he was taken into custody. He's been formally charged with one count each of the following: driving while intoxicated; leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident; failure to keep right on a two-lane road; and moving unsafely from a lane.
Abbott was ticketed and released to appear in St. Armand Town Court at a later date.
