Two years, two finals, two heartbreakers for Beagles

"It was just one of those games," Westport/Keene co-head coach Don Markwica said after the game. "we came out a little tight and once we got settled in, we needed the bats to heat up and it never happened."

David Quaglietta broke up Bissonette's no-hit bid with one out in the fifth inning with a single that as just out of the reach of Osier at second base. James Bell, who had reached twice on errors, had the Beagles other hit on a sharp line drive down the left field line in the sixth.

The Beagles put six runners into scoring position, scoring one (Bell) on a balk call in the fourth inning. The team was 0-for-8 with four strikeouts when runners were in scoring position, while Chazy was 3-for-10, advancing 10 runners to second base or further.

"We just never got the big hit," Markwica said. "We had the chances, but never got the hit that we needed."

Earl started and worked through the first two batters in the third, allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out one. Bell worked the final four innings, allowing no runs on one hit,

Class D semifinals

Keene/Westport 10, Schroon Lake 4

The Beagles scored four times on four errors in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a two-run game and advance to the Class D finals with a win May 31.

James Bell collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove home six runs in the victory with a two-run single, ground-out and a bases clearing double in the sixth inning.

Sam Earl also connected on a double in the win, while Kevin Russell struck out 11 batters in earning a complete game victory.
