Troopers: Man left scene of drunken driving accident

A Clinton County man faces drunken driving charges following a car accident that left a utility pole snapped in half.

Ray Brook-based state police say the accident occurred at about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Troopers responded to state Route 3, just outside Bloomingdale near the Saranac Lake Central School District bus garage. Upon arrival, police found an unoccupied white Volkswagen Jetta on its roof in the middle of the highway.

Witnesses who heard the accident happen also say there was blood at the scene, but no driver. Police say the car apparently collided with a nearby power pole, snapping it in half.

Police eventually tracked down the driver at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Preliminary reports indicate that Jake A. Abbott of Morrisonville has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

No additional information was immediately available Thursday morning.
