Stalker's appeal turned down

PLATTSBURGH - Mark Gantt, 48, has been denied an appeal by the Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court for his conviction last year on charges of stalking and criminal contempt.

The Plattsburgh man pleaded guilty to charges of defying a court order and stalking a woman. Gantt was sentenced to concurrent prison terms of two to four years for each charge. He was already given a 12-year term related to a string of local burglaries in 2008.

Gantt's appeal was based on his argument he was denied effective counsel, further stating the guilty plea he submitted was not voluntary.

Gantt will continue to serve his sentence at Five Points Correctional Facility, Romulus, until his earliest release date of May 2020.
