Police make Springfield drug arrests

SPRINGFIELD-Members of the Southern Vermont Drug Task Force (SVDTF)were busy May 31 during a dramatic "drug bust" in the Springfield area.

Illegal drug-related arrests were made after months of undercover work and related investigations. Vermont State Police and Springfield Police Department were involved in the sweep.

SVDTF-member law enforcement officers arrested of Tyrone Hill, 41, and Stephanie Champney, 25, both of Springfield.

A search warrant was executed at the Hill and Champney residence at 51 Merrill St. in Springfield. A thorough search of a vehicle owned by Hill was also part of the sweep. More than an ounce of crack cocaine was seized.

Melissa Barratt, 31, of Bellows Falls, was also arrested and linked to the sale of crack cocaine.

Hill, Barratt and Champney faced serious felony charges.

Hill faced the following multiple charges:

Accessory to the sale of crack cocaine, less than 2.5 grams (five years felony charge),

Sale of crack cocaine, more than 2.5 grams (10 years felony charge),

Sale of crack cocaine, more than 2.5 grams (10 years felony),

Sale of Crack Cocaine, more than 2.5 grams (10 years felony),

Accessory to Sale of Crack Cocaine, more than 1 ounce (20 years felony),

Accessory to Sale of Heroin, more than 200 mg. (10 years felony),

Accessory to Sale of Heroin, more than 1 gram (20 years felony),

Accessory to Sale of Heroin, more than 1 gram (20 years felony),

Champney's charges include:

Sale of Crack Cocaine, less than 2.5 grams (five years felony),

Sale of Crack Cocaine, more than 2.5 grams (10 years felony0,

Sale of Crack Cocaine, more than 2.5 grams (10 years felony),

Accessory to Sale of Crack Cocaine, more than 2.5 grams (10 years felony),

Accessory to Sale of Crack Cocaine, more than 1 ounce (20 years felony),

Sale of Heroin more than 200 mg (10 years felony),

Sale of Heroin more than 1 gram (20 years felony),

Sale of Heroin more than 1 gram (20 years felony).

Barratt faced a single charge:

Sale of Crack Cocaine more than 1 ounce (20 years felony).

Police officials said both Hill and Champney were impriosned at the Vermont Southern State Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail cash or surety.

Barratt was jailed at the Vermont Southern State Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail cash or surety.
