LONGLAKE-The 20th annual Spring Blossom Fiddle Jamboree will be hosted by Frank Orsini and The Whippersnappers at the town hall on June 19.
The Long Lake Fiddle Jamboree returns after having been postponed due to flooding back in April.
"A lot of roads were closed,"said Alexandra Roalsvig, tourism director for the Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department. "People weren't traveling. So we thought it was better to postpone it."
The Whippersnappers; Peter Davis, George Wilson and Frank Orsini; have played the Albany region folk-music scene for decades. Davis plays guitar, piano, and clarinet; Wilson is a traditional fiddler and banjoist who regularly performs at regional folk festivals; and fiddler-mandolinist-guitarist Frank Orsini has played with bluegrass greats Bill Keith and Frank Wakefield.
The Fiddle Jam is a celebration for all ages and all levels of experience helping preserve, and promote old time fiddling. No auditions are required, no competition, just good times, toe-tapping, spirit lifting music.
"It's a chance for amateur fiddlers to play with a professional band," Roalsvig said.
Fiddlers must arrive at the town hall by noon on June 19 to reserve a slot to play two songs with the backup band or with one's own backup musicians. It's an informal gathering of friends, old and new in a non-competitive atmosphere. Get there early to sign up.
"It's fun because it's non-competitive," Roalsvig said. "I think that's a big part of why people like this event."
