Athol-Thurman

Birthdays being celebrated this week are Teddy Baker and Billy Neville on June 11, Bob Goodnow Sr. on June 12, Sara Baker on June 13, Kim Philo and Josh Tanner on June 14, Russ Leigh II on June 16, and Josh Clement on June 17.

Get well wishes go out to Jasmine Baker, Tina Parker, Ray Hanes, Earle Dibble, Bob Goodnow Jr., Cliff Dureau and Tom Wunchel.

Wanda Wood of Greenwich and her caregiver came up for a day to visit her mom, Leila Wood of Mud St. Her sister Eileen stopped by for a short visit while Wanda was up.

Sympathy from the community goes out to the Wallace family on the May 21 passing of Dorothy Wallace Bennett. Dot had lived in Thurman for many years, and was well-known for her gardening and craft skills, and knitting warm wool socks.

Correction on job opening

In the May 28 Journal, a job opening was incorrectly listed. The job opening was for a part-time Court Clerk, not the Town Clerk position. Cynthia Hyde is our Town Clerk, and she is diligent and well-qualified for the position. The Denton staff apologizes for their error in typing up my handwritten column.

Clarification on squad's service

Also, in last week's issue, I mentioned how the Thurman Emergency Squad had started an outreach effort as a community service to offer friendly, supportive talk to those who were lonely, or needed someone to talk to. Unfortunately, I used the word "depressed" in mentioning the service, and the Thurman Squad officials were reminded by authorities they could not be practicing psychiatry or providing counseling services. Sorry for the use of the term - we here at the Journal have high regard for work of the Thurman Emergency Services and the many ways they help out others - and we apologize for using the term we did - it of course was never their intent - or ours - to suggest they provide counseling services.
