SL chamber elects new board president

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce got a new president for its board of directors earlier this week.

Joe Riccio, communications manager at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, will replace Keith Wells, who announced his resignation last week.

Riccio, who joined the board of directors in 2008 and has served as first vice president since last summer, was unanimously elected to the position.

"Like many organizations, the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is facing challenges," Riccio said in a prepared statement.

"We are fortunate to have a dedicated board of directors and executive director in Sylvie Nelson who are committed to serving our membership by building partnerships throughout our region to enhance the overall business environment," he added.

Riccio has worked for AMC since 2006 and prior to that he was managing editor of the Malone Telegram.

He resides in Malone with his wife and daughter, and serves on the board of trustees in the village of Malone. Chamber officials say his participation on the board of directors comes from a strong desire to be actively involved in the community where he works.
