AMC to host fundraiser for hospital in Africa

The Adirondack Medical Center is hosting a benefit garage sale this weekend to raise funds for its Adirondacks to Africa Project.

The garage sale will take place in the lower parking lot in front of the hospital from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will also be hot dogs and lemonade for sale.

The mission of the Adirondacks to Africa Project partners AMC with the Livingstone General Hospital in the southern part of Zambia to assist in the improvement of the health of the community served by the hospital.

Volunteers at AMC plan to raise $10,000 to assist the Livingstone hospital with the purchase of ultrasound equipment and a ventilator. So far, AMC has raised $3,200 toward its goal through bake sales, poinsettia sales and a silent auction at AMC's annual holiday party.

The partnership was formed when AMC President & CEO Chandler Ralph visited the hospital on a recent trip to Africa.

It became readily apparent the Livingstone hospital could benefit from a partnership with AMC, and vice-versa. A work group was formed at AMC to identify specific projects, whether it is for medical supplies or personnel for the hospital, and then secure the needed funds and resources to meet the project goals.
