Minerva FD celebrates sign

MINERVA - The weather was fine and the crowd was ready for a small but significant celebration May 30 as the members of the Minerva Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad recognized a new sign built in front of their building on state Route 28N.

The new message board sign was something the the Minerva Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad (MVFD&RS) members had been considering for years.

It ultimately came about as the result of the efforts of a bunch of individuals and organizations. The primary mover and shaker here has been Jonathan Sears, a Boy Scout with Troop 36 in North Creek. Sears took on the project of planning for, organizing, and building the sign for his Eagle Scout project.

Using a generous grant from the Lake Placid-based.

Adirondack Community Trust to the MVFD&RS as a starting point, Sears worked to secure additional funding to build the sign, which includes a beautiful flower box. The actual building began in April during a cold rain which produced prodigious volumes of mud; nevertheless a large group of scouts and their leaders were there to put the sign up and make it a reality.

The sign is now being actively used to announce upcoming meetings at the firehouse as well as and community events and celebrations. It will get plenty of use over the years.

Sears and the members of MVFD&RS have a number of organizations and individuals to thank for donating cash and materials for this great Eagle Project. They include: the Adirondack Community Trust, Hornbeck Boats, Sporty's Iron Duke Saloon, K&K Repairs, Amanda Savarie, North Creek Fire Department, Ticonderoga Garden Club, Garnet Signs, Paul & Tara Sears, Minerva Service Organization, and Braley & Noxon.

Thanks to all who have supported Jon Sears in this project - from design to completion, a lot of thoughtful and hard work have produced great results.
