Johnsburg to receive new ambulance

JOHNSBURG - The Johnsburg Emergency Squad are the recipients of a $118,750 federal grant, which they will use towards the purchase of a new ambulance. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer announced the grant award this week as part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters grant program.

The grant will be matched by five percent from the squad's annual fundraising campaign, according to Kelly Nessle, Johnsburg EMS board member.

The new ambulance will replace one that was purchased in 1998 and has accrued more than 145,000 miles.

Johnsburg's call volume usually experiences a higher quantity in the winter months, due to ski injuries at Gore Mountain Ski Center, according to Sterling Goodspeed, Johnsburg Supervisor.
