Activities, events in the Queen Village
Remember that the Church of the Holy Cross youth group will be holding an Italian dinner on Saturday Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. as a fundraiser for their Youth Works missions.
The multi-course dinner includes a variety of Italian entrees, we hear. The charge is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Proceeds from the dinner go to help offset expenses of a Youth Works mission trip this summer, in which youth help upgrade or clean up homes of the needy.
Don't forget the presentation on the Schroon River and its history set for 7 p.m. Thursday Jan. 20 at Grace's Restaurant, 3 Hudson St., by Mike Prescott, a state-licensed guide. Titled "The Armchair Paddler of the Schroon River," the free talk is presented by the Warrensburgh Historical Society.
Also, the Stony Creek Free Library will be holding a Book and Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Feb. 5 at the Stony Creek Town Hall. Books in good condition can be dropped off at the library by Feb. 1. Donated baked goods can be brought to the Town Hall the morning of the sale.
And how about an exhilarating snowshoe hike while enjoying nature's profound beauty? All local folks are invited to attend Community Day at Natural Stone Bridge & Caves, and hike down the attraction's new snowshoe trails to see natural wonders in their winter splendor. There's free admission for local residents, so bring identification. Snowshoe rentals are offered for $5, but only 30 pairs are available. A total of 5.5 miles of marked snowshoe trails have been developed at the region's leading attraction. After the hike, enjoy a marshmallow roast over an outdoor fire. Call 494-2283 for details.
