Three snow sleds plunge into Lake George

LAKE GEORGE - Three snowmobilers traveling on Lake George went through the ice near Assembly Point and Long Island around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, taking their drivers with them.

The sleds were being operated by Lee Pike, Douglas Smith and Michael Smith, all of Katskill Bay, authorities said. The group was out for a ride on the lake and drove into soft slushy ice and the sleds went into the water, police said. The sleds will be recovered this week.

An non-involved snowmobile rider witnessed the event and called 911, authorities said.

All the snowmobilers were safely pulled out of the water and transported to shore by North Queensbury and Horicon Fire Department Air Boats, police said. The three were treated and released from the scene by Lake George and North Queensbury EMS.
