Crown Point pantry changes

CROWN POINT - The Crown Point Ecumenical Food Pantry was formed through the efforts of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic community and the United Methodist Church. It was named so that people would know that all were welcome to use the pantry based on the availability of food.

The first few years the pantry was housed at the Sacred Heart Rectory. Eventually the pantry moved to a room at The United Methodist Church. Since then it has increased the number of families served.

For years it has provided Christmas baskets for the needy. Now it is duplicating the efforts of another organization. Organizers feel that does not serve the community the best, so starting in 2011 the pantry will provide an Easter basket instead of a Christmas basket.

Pantry organizers thanked the shoppers, the packers, Pat Sawyer, Kathy Hyatt for handing out food and Dave Hobbs for his efforts.
