But others in the community have pointed out the success of the combined teams, like the War-Eagles Wrestling Team, which includes grapplers from both Hadley-Luzerne High and Lake George High schools.
Students and fans of both Hadley-Luzerne and Lake George High now identify with the War-Eagles' success - the team has gained in both popularity and its competitive level since it was launched several years ago.
Other schools successfully merging programs and boosting participation and competitiveness include Indian Lake and Long Lake, plus Minerva and Newcomb.
Some have noted that fielding a joint Bolton-Warrensburg football program might boost the present Burgher team even if it was bumped into Class C, as the team would compete with Lake George, Corinth and other local C-school rivals that haven't lost enrollment as fast as Warrensburg has.
As of Jan. 10, however, the school board members talked of exploring for the near-term merely the merger of volleyball and soccer.
Further discussion is expected at the Jan. 31 meeting.
