Attempted murder trial begins

FORT EDWARD - A jury will be selected Jan. 18 in the case of a Greenwich man accused of attempted murder for allegedly kidnapping and trying to kill a man for stealing drugs from him.

The accused, Scott M. Thorpe, 37, has been charged by police with 19 counts including attempted second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and robbery.

He is accused of luring Queensbury resident Michael Benway to a home in Hartford where he and two friends allegedly bound Thorpe, beat him and threatened him with a gun and knife. They also allegedly injected him with drugs, police reported. Police said Benway escaped after grabbing a gun and jumping from a vehicle being driven by his captors. Thorpe later accused Benway of stealing several pounds of marijuana from him.
