Keeseville 1-22-11

Two active groups in our community are starting up dinners again. The Elks Lodge, located at 1 Elks Way next to the Immaculate Conception Church, is hosting Friday night dinners. Contact them at 834-2072 for dates, times, meals and prices. The marquee by the road mentions a fish fry for this Friday at a price of $6.95 with shrimp dinners also available. Down the road past the Elks Lodge on Route 9S, specifically 1435 Route 9S, the ladies of the Knights of Columbus are hosted a monthly dinner for the community. The first one was this past Thursday, Jan. 20 with a Pot Roast dinner. These dinners will occur once a month. You can check with Keeseville Roman Catholic Community Rectory, 834-7100, or the Knights of Columbus, 834-4689, for the date and time of the next meal in February. I remember when I first moved to Keeseville we went to an all-you-can-eat Sunday breakfast buffet that was put on by a local group every second and fourth Sunday of the month which was a lot of fun and a very nice way to meet other people in the community.

Days are getting a little longer so I managed to get out walking again. Great to see people skating on the tennis and basketball court by the Village Office. This is a wonderful way to enjoy the fresh air and get some exercise for free. Looking around everything is so beautiful with its crisp coat of white and the starkness of the trees. Many buildings take on a totally different hue this time of year. Summer seems to bring out so many colors that a lot of the buildings seem to pale. Now is there chance to shine beautifully. I also greatly appreciate all the people who have taken the time to keep the streets and sidewalks clear. Usually I have an awful time navigating around in the winter but so far my walks have been very pleasant. If you haven't stepped out on the bridges, the ice is beautiful floating on the AuSable River. Remember AuSAble Chasm is open all year round now and local residents get a reduction on costs. Enjoy the different look of our great community. Have a safe week.
