Ti alumni set the pace

TICONDEROGA - A pair of Ticonderoga High School alumni got the New Year off to a good start by winning the annual Resolution Run Jan. 1.

Lee Gabler toured the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course in downtown Ti in 16 minutes, 33 seconds to win.

Gabler is now a member of SUNY-Geneseo cross country and track teams. In November he ran with the Blue Knights at the NCAA Division III national championship meet.

Meaghan (Herbst) Arzberger won the women's race in 23:44.

Arzberger was a four-year member of the St. Mary's College (Notre Dame, Ind.) cross country team and was captain her senior season. Now living in Maine, she is a member of the Maine Track Club.

Both are former Ti High cross country and track state qualifiers.

The event included a five-kilometer (3.1 miles) run, a four-kilometer (2.5 miles) walk and a .75-mile run for children.

Rachel Ward led walkers and Janna Rutkowski set the pace in the children's race.

Both events began and ended at the Community Building on Montcalm Street.

The course followed Lake Champlain Avenue to Water Street to Lake George Avenue back to Montcalm Street.

All proceeds from the vent were donated to the local food pantry.

Following the run there were light refreshments and presentation of awards. Awards were home-baked goods.
