Indian Lake-Long Lake 35
NEWCOMB - League leaders, the Indian Lake-Long Lake Orange went head-to-head with MVAC Division Three rival, the Minerva-Newcomb Mountaineers last Wednesday. They topped the Mountaineers 35-10 and remained undefeated in the league to clinch the Division Three three title again this year. Their overall record advanced to 6-2.
The Orange's only two losses came from a Class C tournament over Christmas break, according to Orange head coach John Reynolds.
"Our big strength is defense," said Reynolds. "We work hard at it everyday. Now we need to walk away with a higher shot percentage after our games."
Reynolds acknowledged that the Lady Orange are getting their shots, but need to capitalize more to make it to the next level.
Carli Reynolds scored a game-high 15 points in Wednesday's match-up to lead the Orange, who outscored the Mountaineers 16-3 in the second half.
Melanie Pierson had 10 rebounds to go with her six points and Allison Pine finished with seven rebounds. Murphy Farrell recorded five steals and five assists. Meg Smith finished with four points and Jessica Bain finished with two points for the win.
Rebecca Bolan lead the Mountaineers with three points. Gabrielle McNally and Ashley Miller each finished with a basket a piece and Mackenzie Winslow brought home the game's lone three-pointed for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers remained scoreless in the first quarter until a lay-up from McNally put them on the board.
Reynolds is looking forward to sectionals with the Lady Orange.
"Our goal is to make to the the big games in sectionals," he said.
