RUTLAND - Ladies' Night Out Women's Chorus is starting rehearsals at the Rutland Middle School Music Room Tuesday Jan. 25, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Instead of auditions, new singers are asked to attend the first rehearsal, and their continuation with the choir for the semester will be a mutual decision between the director and the new singer.
Singers interested in attending should call the director, Lucy Allen Tenenbaum, at (802) 775-8004 so they know how many are expected at the rehearsal. They are singing an exciting and varied program of songs that are (loosely) about nature. The type of music ranges from classical composers including Debussy, Clara Schumann and Brahms, to spirituals and madrigals, as well as contemporary pieces for women's voices. The pianist this semester is Jacob McLaughlin.
There is a $25 fee for the semester. The rehearsals are every Tuesday except the school vacation weeks in February and April, and the concert is May 10 at College of St. Joseph's Tuttle Theater.
The purpose of the choir is two-fold: to make wonderful music for the singers and the audience to enjoy, and to make new friends. Women of all ages are welcome. Reading music is a big help, but we have rehearsal CDs, and over the long rehearsal period there is time to learn all the music whatever your skill level. Singing in tune is essential.
