Local teen pleads not guilty in sexual abuse case

A local teenager accused of sexually abusing two children has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The 17-year-old male from Bloomingdale appeared in Franklin County Court last week before Judge Robert Main Jr. He was first taken into custody by Tupper Lake Village Police in December of 2009.

The youth - whose name has been withheld due to potential youthful offender status - faces a bevy of felony charges, including: two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act; first-degree sexual abuse; and endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors say the defendant engaged in sexual acts with two young boys, ages 8 and 9. The teen was 16 when the alleged offenses occurred.

The subject is currently incarcerated at the Essex County Jail. He had been free under the supervision of the Franklin County Probation Department, but he allegedly missed a court appearance last fall.

Despite requests by the subject's public defender to be released from jail, Judge Main remanded him with bail set at $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

A temporary restraining order was issued for the alleged victims.
