Willsboro 1-8-11

Our area greeted "Baby New Year" with mild weather and some area celebrations. Several other areas of the country did not do so well with the dumping of several inches of snow, especially the New York City & Boston areas. A few of our local rescue squad members took an ambulance and went to N.Y. City to assist them in the crisis. They are to be commended in offering assistance to another community in trouble, we are proud of your efforts. Our snow is nearly gone as of this Sunday morning, just a lot of soggy ground all around.

I received word that one of our Willsboro High School graduates continues to excel in her studies, Katie Shepard who is in her fourth year at Plattsburg State University has a 4.0 average and remains on the High Honors listing. Way to go Katie we are so proud of you and wish you well in your education career field. The Willsboro Congregational Church is once again starting up their winter series of "Coffee House" events. The first one will be held on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Church fellowship hall. They are featuring the Sounds of the Northway, this group feature acoustic traditional to contemporary folk singers. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students, refreshments will be available. Another evening of pleasure is the Champlain Valley film Society's movie presentation of "Easy A" on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Willsboro School Auditorium, here again the admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students under 18.

I stopped in for a visit with Pat & Gay Young and had a chance to meet the new addition to their family. Granddaughter Brittany Pope is there with her new daughter Sydney Rene Hayford. Brittany and Ian Hayford welcomed Sydney into this world on Dec. 7, 2010, she is adorable and I had a chance to hold her for awhile.

Happy Birthday to Lacey Ahrent Jan. 9, Gregg Mitchell Jan. 9, Catherine Bigelow Jan. 10, Betty Jane Cross Jan. 11, Wayne Feeley Jan. 12, and Ruth Pytlak Jan. 16.
