Sentinels, 'Cats lead local teams into sectionals

Ticonderoga and Schroon Lake each earned three seeds in the Section VII girls basketball tournament.

Ticonderoga faced Seton Catholic at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at the SUNY-Plattsburgh fieldhouse in the Class C tournament semifinals. Northern Adirondack played top-seed Lake Placid in the other semifinal.

The Class C championship game will be played Friday, march 4, at 5:45 p.m. at the SUNY-Plattsburgh fieldhouse.

Schroon Lake, the third seed in the Class D tournament, hosted Chazy Friday, Feb. 25, in quarterfinal play.

Moriah, the fifth seed, played at Elizabethtown-Lewis at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, the winner of the Crown Point-Wells play-in game faced top-seed Indian/Long Lake and Willsboro played Westport in quarterfinal action.

The Class D semifinal round will be played at 3 and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at the SUNY-Plattsburgh field house.

The Class D championship game game will be played at 4 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the SUNY-Plattsburgh fieldhouse.

Moriah 56, Ticonderoga 33

Moriah broke open a close game in the second half and beat Ticonderoga, 56-33, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball action Feb. 18.

Leading 21-18, the Vikings started the second half with a 19-8 run to take command.

Brooke Sheffer had 15 points and Hailey Chapuk 10 for the Vikings.

Kaylene Ross had 12 points for Ticonderoga.

AVCS 58, Moriah 21

AuSable valley downed Moriah, 58-21, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball play Feb. 16.

Alexis Coolidge had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Patriots, who led from the start.

Carlee Hart added 10 points for AVCS, which won the CVACDivision II championship with a 14-2 record.

Hailey Chapuk had eight points for Moriah.

Seton 36, Ticonderoga 26

Ticonderoga fell to Seton Catholic, 36-26, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls basketball play Feb. 16.

Kaylene Ross scored nine points for Ticonderoga.
