Movies return to Ti

TICONDEROGA - Ticonderoga hasn't had a movie theatre in two decades, but flicks are returning to the community.

The Ticonderoga Best Western Inn & Suites will screen family movies - and assist the Black Watch Memorial Library.

The film series will begin Tuesday, Feb. 22, with Toy Story 3 in 3D.

Also scheduled are How to Train Your Dragon in 3D March 12, Kung Fu Panda April 2 and Megamind in 3D April 23.

Each movie will be shown at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m.

Other movies will be scheduled and requests can be made.

"We are thinking about Yogi Bear and we will definitely be showing Nanny McPhee Returns due to a request," said Allison Kaupelis, Best Western director of sales and marketing. "We can also receive requests via our Facebook page by parents. The movie information for that month is also posted on our Facebook page and the chamber's website under the calendar."

Tickets, sold at the door, are $2 for children and $5 for adults.

"We kept it at that price because even if a family has three children and both parents come they can have a great family movie night for under $20," Kaupelis said. "I wanted to make it affordable for all families.

"The idea behind movie night is to provide a night out for the children of the area that won't cost their parents a lot of money, to see movies that are recent releases," she said. "I understand that the closest movie theatre is about an hour away and with movie ticket prices being so high as well, this is an affordable evening out."

Movie fans will get free pop corn and free use of 3D glasses, although the 3D glasses must be returned after a show.

"We sell slices of pizza and also hot cocoa and soda for refreshments," Kaupelis said. "We also provide blankets for those children who didn't bring them to lay down on the floor to watch the movie. We have chairs for the adults as well."
