Minerva Winter Carnival returns to celebrate season

MINERVA - This year's winter carnival is begging for people to step outside and enjoy the winter months and all they have to offer. Minerva Winter Carnival will return Feb. 18-20.

Weekend events include a ziti dinner at the Minerva Fire House Friday evening with entertainment provided by Mike Leddick and his guitar. Night sledding will take place behind Sporty's on that evening. Saturday will kick-off with doughnuts and hot beverages at the Maple Knoll Sugar House on 14th Road. At Minerva Lake, a speed-skating oval, snow golf, a snowshoe/compass scavenger hunt, cross-country and snowshoe races, the Bill Barnes snowshoe challenge, a kids hockey shoot-out on the rink, broomball, and a bonfire with refreshments will be featured.

Activities shift to Minerva Central School Sunday with a pancake breakfast, the snow sculpture contest, and the First Annual Minerva Film Festival. Back at the warming hut guided snowshoe and cross-country ski hikes will be offered. From late afternoon until the evening, MCS will offer indoor activities including a chili cook-off, water-witching, guessing contests, a tricky tray event, creative problem-solving, board games, door prizes, and the carnival awards ceremony.
