Fishing derby winners announced

RAQUETTELAKE-Ninety two adults and eighteen junior division entries competed in the 11th Annual Mike Norris Memorial Ice Fishing Derby in Raquette Lake at the end of January. Fishing was a bit slow this year, but it did not dampen the spirits of the contestants, according to derby planning committee members.

The Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club hosts the event and the Norris family young and old helps to run the derby.

Noah Lamphear of Inlet won first place perch, with brother Westly Lamphear right behind him with second place. Third place went to Jack Rivett of Old Forge and Savannah Lamphear, visiting from New Hampshire finished in fourth place.

For the adults, in fierce competition Jason Scott of Raquette Lake weighed in the salmon winner late in the day, bumping Kathy Lewis of Raquette Lake to second with her 1.34 pound salmon which held first place on the board from early in the contest.
