Crown Point captures conference crown

CROWNPOINT - The Crown Point cheerleaders finished their season by hosting - and winning - the Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference cheerleading competition Feb. 12.

Chazy took second place with Schroon Lake third. Bolton Central School and Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School also have cheerleading teams in the MVAC, but did not perform at the competition.

Results include:

Individual competition - 1, Marissa Gero, Schroon Lake; 2, Kimberlee Fariss, Schroon Lake; 3, Taylor Booth, Crown Point;

Partner competition - 1, tie, Taylor Booth and Natasha Burns of Crown Point, Chelsea Mooney and Miranda Oshier of Chazy; 2, Marissa Gero and Meghan Hedden of Schroon lake; 3, Mechelle Cole and Kortney Scheuer of Crown Point;

Stunt group competition - 1, Chelsea DuShane, Jerrica Manley, Emily Meachem, Erin Ross and Brenda Mesones, Crown Point.

"All of the MVAC teams did a great job," said Crown Point Coach Laura Uhly. "In addition to hosting a fun competition, the teams had a Miracle Minute, raising as much money as they could in one minute for the American Heart Association. Thank you to everyone who attended the competition and for your generous donations. We raised $254.34 during the Miracle Minute."

Crown Point followed up the MVACevent by taking second place at the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Competition Feb. 12 at Saranac Central School.

"Within one weekend, the team performed well enough to beat every team in the North Country except one," Uhly said. "Northeastern Clinton Central School took away the first place trophy. After the competition, the girls traveled to the Saranac Lake Winter Festival to check out the ice castle and do some team bonding. It was a fantastic day.

"To end the season, the team had its' annual pool party at Moriah Central School," she said. "Congratulations to the girls on a wonderful year."
