The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival was busier this year, with more people in town than past years.
But the additional visitors were fairly well-behaved.
That's according to Saranac Lake Village Police Chief Bruce Nason. He told WNBZ Tuesday that Winter Carnival was the busiest it's been in recent years.
That's good news for local businesses - and Nason adds that the fact his officers only made a few carnival-related arrests is the icing on the cake.
"There were more people," he said. "But, for example, on Saturday - the day of the Gala Parade - we only made two arrests. Maybe there was a third arrest on Friday, but that couldn't be attributed to carnival."
Nason says his officers definitely noticed an uptick in the overall numbers this year.
"But for us, arrest-wise, it was less than in years past," he said.
Nason did add, however, that the police department received a lot of service calls.
"We got some reports of loud people or a possible fight," he said. "By the time we arrived, it had dispersed."
