Vermont 'Schools' center and network to merge

Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence (VCAE) officials announces that the Vermont School Age Care Network (VSACN) will join the center March 1. All current operations of the Vermont School Age Care Network will continue after the merger through the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence.

"This is a perfect opportunity to bring together the work of the two organizations that support afterschool providers," said Holly Morehouse, executive director of the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence. "We will be able to provide more services more efficiently and effectively working together in this way."

The Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence is a public-private statewide partnership initiative dedicated to supporting and sustaining innovative learning opportunities that extend beyond the school day for all Vermont's children and youth. The Center's activities are directed toward building the capacity and commitment of Vermont communities to increase the quality and availability of programs during non-school hours.

The Vermont School Age Care Network is a membership organization dedicated to increasing opportunities for and improving the quality of school age care in Vermont. Services include professional development workshops for afterschool workers and technical assistance to afterschool programs. VSACN is the Vermont affiliate of the National Afterschool Association.

"We see this merger as an opportunity to extend our services to more programs and professionals," said Sue Kamp, Coordinator of the Vermont Center for Afterschool Excellence. "We anticipate the only change our members and others in the field will see after this transition is a strengthening and broadening of the types of programs we have been able to provide over the years. "

The merger will be celebrated at the Afterschool for All Legislative Day on Wednesday, Feb. 23 in Montpelier.
