Program looks at the life of local Civil War prophet

On March 8 at noon, Gill Coates will present a talk entitled "Joseph Hoag: His Life and Vision" at the Sheldon Museum.

Coates will trace the life of Joseph Hoag and his 1803 vision of the Civil War. Hoag, a Quaker minister who was born in New York, moved his family to Monkton in 1791, and later moved to nearby Charlotte.

Coates has been president of the Monkton Museum and Historical Society since 2005.

The talk is offered in conjunction with the Sheldon's current exhibit, "Town Treasures." Bring a brown bag lunch; beverages and dessert provided. Fee: $2.
