Going Red for Women continues to garner widespread support from both men and women at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Hospital spokesman Joe Riccio says a large number of women and men at AMC donated $5 for the privilege to wear red Feb. 4, and the honor of raising awareness about heart disease - the leading cause of death for women in the United States today.
Wear Red Day is a national observance sponsored by the American Heart Association intended to raise awareness that more women die of heart disease than any other causes combined.
Health experts estimate that one woman dies of heart disease every minute.
This year, participation by AMC staff at all sites generated close to $600 for the Wear Red cause.
