North Country Congressman Bill Owens announced last week that he will serve as co-chair of the House Northern Border Caucus.
The Democrat, who represents New York's 23rd Congressional District, joins Republican Congressman Denny Rehberg of Montana in leading the caucus.
According to Owens, the Northern Border Caucus is a congressional organization charged with educating members of the House on issues facing states along the Canadian border.
The caucus also drafts and directs legislation concerning the northern border.
"Northern Border communities have a strong relationship with Canada that is critical to the success of job creation efforts along the border and throughout the nation," Owens said, noting that cross-border trade accounts for a large portion of economic development in the North Country.
"I look forward to working with Congressman Rehberg and the rest of the Northern Border Caucus to highlight issues facing communities along the Canadian border and to promote the secure movement of people and goods," Owens added.
