TICONDEROGA - Ticonderoga's town board has restructured its committee system for 2011.
Supervisor Deb Malaney changed chairmanships and assignments on four of the key committees that serve the board during the annual town reorganizational meeting.
The affected panels are public works, public safety, highway and parks and recreation.
"It's good to learn different aspects of municipal operations," Malaney said. "It's also a plus to get people taking a new look at things, maybe they have some new ideas."
Trustee Wayne Taylor will serve as chairman of the public works committee with councilor Jeff Cook as vice chair. Malaney had chaired that committee.
Steve Whitford will serve as chair of the public safety committee, a post previously held by Taylor. Trustee Whitford is a retired Ticonderoga police officer and brings that experience to the committee.
Malaney will take over a chair of the highway committee. Cook had been the highway chairman.
Cook is the new chairman of the parks and recreation committee, replacing trustee Dorcey Crammond. Crammond has been named the town's liaison to the Adirondack Community Action Program.
Bob Dedrick, who retired in 2009 after 10 years as supervisor, will again serve as deputy supervisor.
Malaney said the new appointments better distribute the workload among town board members.
"I wanted to equalize everyone's responsibilities," she said. "Some of the council members have full-time jobs and have a heavy workload."
