Moore to serve as Grand Marshall for Winter Carnival

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee announced late last week that Catherine Moore will serve as Grand Marshall for this year's festivities.

Moore was notified of her selection earlier in January and, according to Winter Carnival Committee Chair Jeff Dickson, readily accepted the duties and responsibilities associated with the honor.

Moore has been the publisher of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and the Lake Placid News for 22 years. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Moore, 37 years ago and has two grown children - Ryan, who lives with his wife Joanna in Albany, and Lindsay, who has worked with the Enterprise's advertising department for nearly five years.

"I love this town, I never want to leave," Moore said. "I have always felt that Saranac Lake was a magical town with such spirit."

Moore has served on the board of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, and she's president of the New York Press Association.

Dickson notes that the carnival committee selects the Grand Marshall based on an individual's long-term commitment to the betterment of the community. The committee considers both professional and personal factors in making its selection, Dickson adds.

Moore will be the principal guest at a dinner in her honor Tuesday, Feb. 8 and will preside over the Gala Parade on Feb. 12.
