Boys basketball

Crown Point 54, Wells 34

Crown Point crushed Wells, 54-34, in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference boys basketball play Dec. 20.

The Panthers raced to a 23-9 lead and coasted to the win.

Mike Gould and Jake Courcy had double-doubles for the winners. Gould had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Courcy added 11 points and 12 boards.

Dan Groshans added 11 points for the Panthers and Gabe Macey 10.

Schroon 63, Westport 23

Schroon Lake rolled over Westport, 63-23, in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference boys basketball play Dec. 20.

The Wildcats led23-6 after one period and opened the advantage to 37-13 at the intermission.

Jesse Shaughnessy scored 26 points to lead Schroon Lake.

Ian Williams and Uriah Harvey each had 14 points for the winners.

Saranac Lake 57, Moriah 55

A furious Moriah comeback went for not as Saranac Lake posted a 57-55 win in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys basketball play Dec. 20.

Trailing by 10 points, Moriah staged a big rally to tie the game at 55-55 in the final minute. Victory wasn’t to be, however, as Kellen Munn hit a jumper for Saranac Lake with four seconds to play to secure the win.

Carlo Calabrese led the Vikings with 14 points. Landon Cross finished with nine for Moriah.

Beekmantown 45, Ticonderoga 33

Beekmantown topped Ticonderoga, 45-33, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys basketball play Dec. 20.

The Eagles led the entire game, taking control late in the first half.

Keegan Ryan paced the Eagles with 26 points and 22 rebounds.

Nate Lenhart scored 17 points for Ti.

Track

Ticonderoga took third place in the season opening Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys indoor track meet Dec. 20.

The Sentinels scored 65 points. Saranac won with 153.

Jay Hebert won the 55-meter hurdles and was fourth in the 300-meter run for the locals.

Josh Ross took third in the shot, Shawn Silliman fourth in the 55 hurdles, Javeed Nazir fourth in the 600 run, Coleman Granger fifth in the long jump and Steven Bussey fifth in the shot for Ti.

The Sentinels finished sixth in the girls meet with 35 points. Saranac won with 128.

Courtney Shaner was second in the 55 hurdles and fourth in the long jump for Ticonderoga.

Becky Barber raced to fourth place in the 600 run.
