— Robert S. Stegemann started Monday, Dec. 12, as the new Region 5 director for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation based out of Ray Brook.

“I am pleased to join DEC and its hardworking staff as the regional director for the Adirondacks,” Stegemann said.

Stegemann added that there is plenty of work ahead throughout the region.

“From storm recovery and trail maintenance to land acquisitions and wildlife conservation, the eastern Adirondacks and the North Country face many opportunities and challenges,” he said. “I look forward to guiding the region and working with the area’s local governments and our state agency partners on these and other important matters.”

“Bob's impressive record in working to create a sustainable society and to preserve New York's resources make him a natural fit for DEC,” Commissioner Joe Martens said. “In both professional and volunteer capacities, Bob has proven to be an exceptional environmental steward. Bob will be a valuable asset to DEC and the eastern Adirondacks community.”

In his new role, Stegemann will manage and oversee the day-to-day functions of DEC's Region 5 office and work with local officials and regional stakeholders.
