Oktoberfest to expand

Hague event Sept. 23-25

— The Hague Oktoberfest is growing.

The third annual event will become a three-day affair this year, Sept. 23 to 25. In past year’s Oktoberfest has been a single day.

Festivities will get under way Friday, Sept. 23, with an Oktoberfest dance. Saturday will feature live music, beer garden, festival games, and children’s activities. The event will close with a non-denominational Sunrise Service on the beach Sunday morning.

“The 2009 and 2010 Oktoberfests were a huge success with more than 1,200 attendees annually,” said Donna Wotton, an Oktoberfest planner. “The 2011 Oktoberfest will not only include the new events throughout the weekend, but the feature event on Saturday will be expanded to include even more Harvest Fair vendors, games for adults and fun activities for the kids.”

The Oktoberfest Dance will take place under the tent at the Hague town park from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. Local band Calamity Rock will perform rock and roll standards for dancing and the Oktoberfest beer tent will be open.

“This is a family-friendly event with festival food and non-alcoholic beverages available, so bring the family for dinner and dancing at the Hague beach,” Wotton said.

Headlining Saturday’s live entertainment will be the Fritz Polka Band from Verona. The only German music band to have corporate sponsorship from Jagermeister, they are known for their unique spin on oompah and polka music.

The Rev. Bruce Tamlin of Silver Bay will preside over a non-denominational service on Sunday morning under the tent.

“The beauty and serenity of the lake and the great fellowship will no doubt lift the spirits,” Wotton said.

Hague Oktoberfest is sponsored by the town and businesses of Hague.

“After its success over the past couple of years, we’re excited to expand the Hague Oktoberfest to include these additional activities,” Hague Supervisor Dan Belden said. “We have such a beautiful spot here on the lake and it takes more than just an afternoon to explore. We want to give folks a great excuse to spend a fall weekend here sharing a great time with the friendly residents of Hague.”

The festivities will happen rain or shine under the tents in the Hague park, right on the shores of Lake George.

Businesses will offer Oktoberfest weekend specials for lodging, restaurants and stores. For more information visit the Oktoberfest website at http://www.visithague.com/Oktoberfest.htm.
