continued Moriah Supervisor Tom Scozzafava is looking forward to the event.
“Anytime you can provide free entertainment for local residents and attract visitors to the town it’s a good thing,” Scozzafava said. “I’m looking forward to it. I hope we have a great turn out.”
The Moriah Community and Economic Development (EDGe) group was formed at Garrison’s urging after he was elected to the town board two years ago.
“This is just one of many projects that have come from the formation of the Moriah Community and Economic Development group —Moriah Edge,” Garrison said. “Our group is trying to take the assets that town has and we are trying to come up with ideas to capitalize on what we already have and are not utilizing. In the future we are working on a waterfront celebration/autumn leaves celebration and a heritage festival.”
The pH7 committee is a group of concerned citizens who are working for the betterment of Port Henry. It was formed after an effort to dissolve the village failed. The people who formed the committee felt that since the citizenry had voted to keep the village, they should work toward preserving and improving the village.
The civic group has an eye on improving Port Henry’s streetscape and has sponsored several projects to that end. It also erected a community Christmas tree in the circle on Broad Street and decorated it for the holidays. It is also sponsoring a farmers market this summer.
Generating interest in village elections is another goal of the pH7 committee. It sponsored a debate for village candidates for office prior to last spring’s elections.
The Moriah Chamber of Commerce is a long-standing group of local merchants working to improve the town and village. It’s active throughout the year, under the leadership of President Jack Woods, and sponsors events such as the summer concert series in the park, Champ Day and the annual Labor Day celebration.
Moriahstock is the first collaboration between the Moriah Community and Economic Development (EDGe) group, pH7 and the Moriah Chamber of Commerce.
