Willsboro to hold special meeting Aug. 15, several items discussed

— It was just one of those Mondays.

Willsboro Supervisor Ed Hatch said that the town received information on a number of issues the morning before its regularly scheduled Town Board meeting Aug. 8, leaving little time to talk about the issues.

Therefore, Hatch called for a special board meeting to be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, to discuss the topics of funding for tennis court repairs, a potential truck purchase, union contract and bids for the work needed on the Heritage Center roof.

“Everything came in during the day today,” Hatch explained to the board. “I want to give everyone time to look over these things so we can better discuss where we want to go on each.”

Town Highway Superintendent Pete Jacques briefed the board on the situation with one of the towns trucks, a 2000 International.

“We put thousands of dollars into it to fix it up after the board tabled the resolution to buy a new one,” Jacques said. “Recently, we got word that the truck had a cracked frame. Legally, I don’t think you can use it.”

Jacques said that if the truck was out of commission, the town would either have to purchase a new truck or renting one from the county for $85 an hour, if a truck is available.

“I think that we should have the people at International look at it and tell us what they think,” Hatch said. “We can get another opinion from them and if they give us the opinion that we have to replace it, then this would be classified under an emergency expenditure.”

The Town Board also approved a resolution during the Aug. 8 meeting to pay $3,500 to Ronni Travers for work to update the current employee handbook. They also announced that they were looking for an alternate member for the Planning Board.
