Vermont man arrested for boating while intoxicated

— Plattsburgh City Police officers have charged a Vermont man with boating while intoxicated.

Brad W. Thompson, 21, South Burlington, was arrested shortly after 6 a.m. July 22 after police were called to a report of subjects in distress on Lake Champlain near the Plattsburgh Boat Bason off Dock Street. Thompson was found approximately 200 yards out on the lake attempting to make his way to shore off Marina Drive. Officers then located a second subject, Mike Ward, 21, Winooski, Vt., lying on the docks at the Plattsburgh marina.

During an investigation, officers discovered the men traveled to Plattsburgh from Vermont by jet ski July 21 and slept on the beach before attempting to travel back to Vermont later that morning. Both jet skis became disabled as they each ran out of gas. The men attempted to swim back to shore, both wearing life jackets.

Officers arrested Thompson for boating while intoxicated, operating without a boater’s license, and assorted citations for violations of the New York State navigation law.

Ward was transported to CVPH Medical Center with facial injuries. He was treated and released.

Ward was issued similar citations for his involvement in this incident.

Thompson appeared before the Hon. Mark Rogers in Plattsburgh City Court and released pending further court action.
