The Gleaning free food distribution program, now locally administered, is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16 at the Thurman Town Hall. Those attending should call 623-9649 before making the trip to make sure the new local organizers have accomplished all they need to do to hold the session.
Those who seek to know more about the bygone era locally are urged to participate in an upcoming tour Saturday, Sept. 17 of four historic Thurman homes in Thurman. The event begins with a luncheon at the town hall at 11:45 a.m., followed at 12:45 p.m. with a trolley trip. Prices for the narrated trip are $13 for the tour, $7 for lunch, or both for $20. This special event is offered by the John Thurman Historical Society. Participants must pre-register by calling 623-2692. The four trip destinations are the Thomas Gallup farm, the Orley Needham place, the old stock farm, and the home of Will and Myra Cameron.
A fundraiser event to increase awareness of mitochondrial disease will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 26 and 27 at Adirondack Ambiance gallery on Rte. 418 in Thurman. Attending will be watercolor artist Joe McChesney. On sale at the event, to benefit the area mitochondrial association, will be note cards bearing Adirondack scenes painted by Anne Rohe.
