Town Supervisor Evelyn Wood announced that there were over 40 applications submitted for the position of town hall janitor. Only top choices were interviewed, but every applicant received a letter. Hired for the position was Donna Knickerbocker at $7.59 per hour for nine hours per week.
The town board authorized the town justice to hire Linda Moffitt as the new town court clerk at $12.50 per hour. She will take over for Tonya Springer who resigned from her position.
A resolution was passed with three votes cast authorizing the supervisor to enter into a contract with the Warrensburg Emergency Medical Services, not to exceed $25,000 for coverage for the remaining five months of the year. The motion was approved with three Yes votes cast by town board members Al Vasak, Becky Hitchcock and Evelyn Wood. A No vote was cast by Leon Galusha. Board Member Charles Bills was absent.
All members who are planning on attending the Sugar Loaf Mountain Seniors Club picnic on Aug. 17 are reminded to bring a dish to pass. Bring your own silverware, and be there by 2:30 p.m. to participate in the event, to be held at the Warrensburg Fish Hatchery. For details, call Norma at 623-9245. In September, plans call for the Seniors to take a day trip to Hartford, Conn. Anyone wishing to join the club, age 55 and over, is encouraged to join the group members at the picnic. This week’s Concert in the Park in Thurman features the Blue Sky Boys, with banjos and mandolins. They’ll be presenting their delightful music Aug. 15 at the Veterans’ Field in Athol. Music begins at 7 p.m. and snacks will be available.
Area residents are urged to bring their pets Aug. 20 to the rabies clinic set for the Thurman firehouse from 10 a.m. until noon. Dogs must be on leashes and cats in carriers. A $10 donation is requested for each pet. For details, call 761-6580.
