Town of Newcomb website receives overhaul

— The town’s website got a facelift recently.

The site has been around for a long time, said town supervisor George Canon, and he thinks it’s one of the older town sites in the county.

“As times changed, we didn’t change with it,” Canon said.

The first version of the site was made by Crown Point Telephone, then it was managed by Bob Lily, who does information technology support for the county.

So the town contracted for $50 a month with Laurinda Minke for redesign and maintenance of the site.

Minke is fairly new to website creation, though she’s an old hat at design. She was a graphic artist for 23 years with the U.S. Navy, and 8 years with the Coast Guard.

She grew up in Long Lake, and retired to Newcomb about four years ago.

Her biggest concern with the site is slimming it down, she said. Her redesign has focused on consolidating information that was spread around several pages, so there aren’t quite as many mouse-clicks navigating around, she said.

“The site was very, very large, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” she said, but it was almost overwhelming.

Not much new information was added to the site, but it now features some images from Minke’s retired photographer husband.
