JOHNSBURG-Groundbreaking for three cell towers in Johnsburg is scheduled to begin during the coming months, connecting residents with long-awaited cell service in the North Creek region.
The Johnsburg Town Board reached an agreement last year with private land-owners to erect three towers on their property. The first two, one in Wevertown and one at The Glen, will be installed as soon as the weather permits, according to Johnsburg supervisor Sterling Goodspeed. The third is anticipated to arrive in North Creek in the fall.
Goodspeed is confident that once installation commences, the towers will be operational within eight or nine weeks.
After the arduous process of locating effective locations for the towers, Johnsburg began filing the appropriate APA paperwork. It was difficult to find a location that would provide coverage over a large area, Goodspeed said. Due to the terrain within the town of Johnsburg, three towers were necessary.
"We are progressing very nicely," he said.
Service providers are still being reviewed and an official decision has not been released yet, according to Goodspeed.
Johnsburg board members are confident that the towers will enhance the service stretching north from Warrensburg and will provide coverage throughout North Creek. They expect the effects will only be positive.
"Working vacations are becoming popular," said Goodspeed. "It is a priority for our businesses and our town to cater to the group of visitors that wants to remain connected."
